Properties

Three forms of anhydrous compd exist: powder-blue, turquoise, or royal blue crystals. Sol in water. Practically insol in most organic solvents.

Dihydrate.

Properties

Very pale blue, monoclinic needles. Loses 2H2O on standing in air. Turquoise, anhydrous modification formed by dehydration at 100° in vacuo over phosphoric oxide. Sol in water.

Properties

Large, light-blue, monoclinic, holohedral prisms. Powder-blue modification formed by dehydration over CaCl2 under reduced press. Sol in water; very slightly sol in alc. Practically insol in most organic solvents.

Use

As antibacterial agent in the treatment of cellulose.
