Prepd by hydrogenaton of cyclobutene in the presence of nickel at 100°: Willst"atter, Bruce, Ber. 40, 3988 (1907); see also Heisig, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 63, 1698 (1941); by pyrolysis of ether, along with other products: Peytral, Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. [4] 35, 964 (1924). In 39% yield from cyclobutanecarboxylic acid: Cason, Way, J. Org.
