White, odorless, crystalline powder with bitter taste. mp >300°. [α]D20 +21.8° (c = 2). Freely sol in water (about 1:10); slightly sol in alcohol (about 1:800). Insol in ether. pH 5% aq soln: 5.0 to 6.0. LD50 orally in mice: 10 mg/kg (Warawa).
