Description and references

Prepd by addn of an excess of phenylmagnesium bromide to N,N-diethylformamide and treating the reaction mixture with ammonium chloride: Maxim, Mavrodineanu, Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. [5] 3, 1084 (1936). Proposed as an antihistaminic: Capraro, C.A. 41, 6989 (1947).

Viscous liquid, bp17 170°. Solidifies on deep cooling, then mp 56° (Maxim, Mavrodineanu); mp 58-59° [Sommelet, Compt. Rend. 175, 1149 (1922)]; mp 61° [Titov, C.A. 43, 4217 (1949)].

Use

In the detection of nitrates.
