Prepn by reduction of tachysterol: Windaus et al., Ann. 499, 198 (1932); v. Werder, US 2228491 (1941 to Winthrop), cf. Z. Physiol. Chem. 260, 119 (1939). Activity similar to parathyroid extract.

Needles from 90% methanol, mp 125-127°. [α]D22 +97.5° (chloroform). uv max: 242, 251, 261 nm (E1%1cm 870, 1010, 650). Insol in water. Easily sol in organic solvents.
