Properties

Deep red needles from xylene, dec 270°, also reported as dec 246°. Sintering ≈260° and melting ≈280°. Practically insol in water. Very slightly sol in chloroform, ether, benzene; slightly sol in boiling alc; moderately sol in acetone; sol in strong acids with a yellow color.

Use

As 0.03% soln in acetone for detection of silver, mercury, copper, gold, platinum and palladium ions.
