Description and references
Prepd by sulfonation of benzene with sulfuric
acid; formed as a by-product on production of benzenesulfonic acid
and benzenesulfonyl chloride.
Properties
White monoclinic prisms or leaflets, mp 128-129°. bp 378-379°. Insoluble in cold water. Slightly
sol in boiling water; sol in hot alcohol, in benzene. LD50 orally in rats: >2 g/kg, Residue Rev. 36, 240 (1971).Use
Ovicide; acaricide.
