White crystalline solid, mp 153-154°. d 1.32. Distinct bitter taste. Practically insol in water. Sol in alcohol, ether, chloroform. MLD orally in rabbits: 1.5 g/kg (Hanzlik, Irvine).

Vulcanizing accelerator; sulfur dyes.
