Liquid. d418 0.866. bp ≈220°. mp -44°. Insol in water. Misc with alc, ether. LD50 orally in rats:
>43,000 mg/kg (Jenner). Marketed product is an alcoholic soln of various
essences in form of a yellowish liq, d ≈0.823. Used in production of cognac-like
beverages; 1 part ethyl pelargonate and 20 parts alcohol constitute
one kind of artificial “Cognac Essence”.
