Properties

Colorless flakes possessing a finer and more intense vanilla odor and taste than vanillin. mp 77-78°. Sparingly sol in water; sol in alc, ether, glycerol, propylene glycol. Soly in 95% alc about 1 g/2 ml. LD50 orally in rats: >2000 mg/kg, P. M. Jenner et al., Food Cosmet. Toxicol. 2, 327 (1964).
