Prepn of octahydrate: Gmelins, Iron (8th ed.) 59, part B, 771 (1932). Due to unavoidable oxidation, the article of commerce contains basic ferric phosphate.

Properties

Grayish-blue powder or monoclinic crystals. d 2.58. Practically insol in water. Sol in mineral acids. Keep well closed and protected from light.

Use

In ceramics, as catalyst.
