Prepd by chlorination of p-sulfamylbenzoic acid in alkaline medium; product is a mixture of mono- and dichloroamides with the dichloro compd predominating: Proschko, DE 492249; Chem. Properties

Crystals or white powder, dec about 195°. Odor of chlorine. Slightly sol in water, chloroform (differing from dichloramine-T which is very sol in chloroform). Sol in glacial acetic acid and in solns of alkali hydroxides and of alkali carbonates with the formation of a salt.

Use

Water disinfectant.
