Obtained from the potassium salt of 8-hydroxy-5-quinolinesulfonic acid by the action of KI, bleaching powder, and HCl: Claus, Arch. Pharm. 231, 704 (1893); DE 72942 (1893); by the action of KI and Ca(OCl)2 on 8-hydroxy-5-quinolinesulfonic acid: Botton, C.A. 52, 18407e (1958).

Properties

Sulfur yellow, almost odorless and tasteless, crystalline powder. mp 260-270° (dec). One gram dissolves in 500 ml cold, 170 ml boiling water; slightly sol in alcohol. Practically insol in ether or oils.
