The fraction of the volatile oil from Myrtus communis L., Myrtaceae distilling between
166-180° and consisting chiefly of eucalyptol and dextro-pinene with a small quantity of an undefined camphor.
Properties
Colorless or slightly yellow, strongly dextrorotatory
liquid (due to dextro-pinene); pleasant odor resembling
that of turpentine and eucalyptol. d ≈0.895. [α]D20 +10°. nD20 ≈1.465. Freely sol in alcohol, ether.
