Description and references

Made by mixing 18 ml HNO3, 82 ml HCl. In addition to the free acids, it contains nitrosyl chloride (NOCl) and some free chlorine.

Properties

Yellow, fuming, corrosive, volatile liq; suffocating odor; attacks all metals including gold and platinum. Miscible with water. Keep in well-closed, glass-stoppered bottles in a cool place and protected from light.

Caution

Undiluted form is a strong irritant, corrosive.
