Description and references

Prepd by the reaction of a cyclic acetal of an α-monohalohydrin of glycerol with dimethylamine which on treatment with methyl iodide results in a quaternary ammonium salt: Fourneau, US 2445393 (1948 to Rh^one-Poulenc).

Crystals, mp 158-160° (the free base bp21 68°). Freely sol in water. Sol in boiling alcohol (about 40% w/v). Sparingly sol in cold alcohol, ether, chloroform, benzene.
