Description and references

Mixture of the hydrochlorides of opium alkaloids containing 253 parts morphine hydrochloride, 23 parts papaverine hydrochloride, 20 parts codeine hydrochloride. Earlier prepns described as approx 50% morphine, 3% codeine, 5% papaverine, and 20% noscapine. Exhibits biological action of morphine and other alkaloids present in opium. Properties

White or almost white crystalline powder. Sol in water; sparingly sol in alcohol. pH of 1.5% aq sol: 3.7-4.7. Protect from light.
