Properties
Viscous, oily liquid. Bitter taste. d20 0.9941. mp -18°. bp760 239°, bp3.0 120°. nD20 1.4499. Flash pt 125°C (275°F). Miscible with water, methanol, alc, acetone, ethyl acetate.
Soly in ether (25°): 11% w/w. Limited soly in benzene, trichloroethylene,
methylene chloride, petr ether, heptane. LD50 orally in rats: 5.89 g/kg (Smyth).Use
As plasticizer in cellulose products and adhesives,
in brake fluid compositions. Forms esters and polyesters which can
be used as plasticizers, emulsifying agents and resin intermediates.
