Prepd by dichromate oxidation of 1 mol p-phenylenediamine hydrochloride and 2 mols aniline hydrochloride: Witt, Ber. 12, 939 (1879); 19, 3121 (1886). See also Colour Index vol. 4 (3rd ed., 1971) p 4449.

Properties

Green, lustrous needles from dil HCl. Freely sol in water, also sol in alc. Aq and alcoholic solns are purplish-red and have a greenish-yellow fluorescence. Absorption max ≈530 nm.
