Properties

Crystals, mp 232-234° (darkens at 220°). uv max: 275 nm (E1%1cm 82); min: 240 nm (E1%1cm <5). Freely sol in water, pH of 1% soln ≈5. Alkalies liberate the water-insol base. Soluble in acid solns. Soly in isopropanol: ≈10.8 mg/g at 25°. Crystals are not hygroscopic and are stable to light, air, and normal storage temps. An aq soln at its own pH (5) is stable to autoclaving and to many months of storage at room temp.

Therapeutic Category

Antihypertensive. Diagnostic aid (pheochromocytoma).
