Prepn from propionaldehyde + ammonia with a Raney nickel catalyst: Olin, Schwoegler, US 2373705 (1945 to Sharples); by low pressure catalytic hydrogenation of nitropropane: Iffland, Cassis, J. Am. Colorless, alkaline liq; strong ammonia odor. d2020 0.719; mp -83°; bp 48-49°; nD20 1.389. Flash pt, closed cup: 10°F (-12°C). Flammable; corrosive. Keep tightly closed. Misc with water, alcohol, ether. LD50 orally in rats: 0.57 g/kg (Smyth).
