Obtained by steam distillation from the dried heartwood. Constit. Santalols, α-bergamotol, α-bergamotal. Fragrance monograph: J. Food Cosmet. Toxicol. 12, 989 (1974).

Properties

Pale yellow, somewhat viscid liquid; characteristic sandalwood odor and taste. d2525 0.965-0.980. nD20 1.500-1.510. Sol in most fixed oils, propylene glycol, mineral oil; in 5 vols 70% alcohol. Insol in glycerin. Keep well closed, cool and protected from light.

Use

Wood in boxes and carvings, as incense. Oil in perfumes and as fragrance in creams and lotions.
