Description and references

Occurs in nature as the mineral argentite. Usually prepd from the elements: H"onigschmid, Sachtleben, Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 195, 207 (1931).

Properties

Grayish-black, heavy powder. The cryst structure is orthorhombic, changing to cubic when heated above 179°. d420 7.234. mp 845°. Insol in water. Sol in nitric acid, in solns of alkali cyanides.
