Commercially available as a mixture with water containing 70-80% sodium lactate. Ref: Shaw, US 2856326 (1958 to Nat. Dairy Prod. Corp.).

Colorless or almost colorless, thick, odorless liquid. Miscible with water, alcohol. The soln is neutral.

Instead of glycerol in calico printing; as a plasticizer for casein; as a corrosion inhibitor in alc antifreeze mixture.

Electrolyte replenisher; systemic and urinary alkalinizing agent.

Has been used in bovine ketosis.
