Properties

White granules or powder. Oxidizer. d 2.99. mp 570°. nD 1.588. Sol in 1.5 parts water; slightly sol in alcohol or acetone. The aq soln is neutral. At low temps strontium nitrate crystallizes with 4H2O (25.4%). LD50 i.p. in rats: 540 mg/kg, Cochran et al., Arch. Ind. Hyg. 1, 637 (1950).

Use

In pyrotechnics (red fire), signal lights, marine signals, railroad flares, matches.
