Based on an ancient Egyptian drug now termed bezr el khelda. Prepn from o-hydroxypropiophenone: Clerc-Bory et al., Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. 1955, 1083; Mentzer, Meunier, FR 980785 (1951 to Lab. Franc. Chimiother.); Mentzer, US 2769015 (1956 one-half to Laroche-Navarron).
