Prepared by slow evaporation of a soln of erbium oxide in sulfuric acid at 20-25°.

Properties

Powder. d 3.678. Hygroscopic; dissociates on heating; dissolves in water with evolution of heat; forms a basic sulfate on heating to 850°.

Derivative

Octahydrate.

Properties

Pink monoclinic crystals; isomorphic with the corresponding yttrium, praseodymium and neodymium salts. d 3.205. Soly in water (parts/100 parts): 16 (20°); 6.53 (40°). On heating loses its water of hydration.
