“Fulminating gold”.
Description and references
An auric compd of nitrogen. Obtained by the
action of ammonia on auric chloride or ammonium chloride on auric
oxide: Raschig, Ann. 235, 355 (1886); Weitz, Ann. 410, 117 (1915).
Properties
Dark brown powder, which explodes on heating or
rubbing to give gold, nitrogen, and ammonia. Exact compn of the compd
is unknown since it is too explosive to be dried. Therefore, the
only elements that can be determined are gold, nitrogen, and chlorine.Status
