Description and references
Prepd by the action of arsenic trichloride
on o-aminophenol, or from the corresp arsine oxide and
an excess of HCl: DE 281101; from arsphenamine by treatment with
mercuric chloride and HCl gas: Binz, Bauer, Z. Angew. Chem. 34, 261 (1921).

Properties
White hygroscopic powder. mp 200°. Readily sol in water yielding a soln
of oxophenarsine. Usually marketed mixed with 3.33 times its weight
of sodium citrate-carbonate as buffer to make a soln of pH 6.2 isotonic
with human blood. LD50 i.p. in mice: 41 mg/kg (Beck).Therapeutic Category
Formerly as antisyphilitic.
Therapeutic Category (Veterinary)
Has been used as a filaricide.
