Potassium Hydroxide VS, Ethanolic

Alcoholic potassium hydroxide

For a 0.01m solution Dilute 2.0 mL of 0.5m ethanolic potassium hydroxide to 100.0 mL with aldehyde-free ethanol (96%).

For a 0.1m solution Dissolve 6 g of potassium hydroxide in 50 mL of water and dilute to 1000 mL with aldehyde-free ethanol (96%).

Ascertain its exact concentration immediately before use in the following manner. Titrate 20 mL of the solution with 0.1m hydrochloric acid VS using 0.5 mL of phenolphthalein solution as indicator. Each mL of 0.1m hydrochloric acid VS is equivalent to 5.611 mg of KOH.

For a 0.5m solution Dissolve 3 g of potassium hydroxide R in 5 mL of water R and dilute to 100.0 mL with aldehyde-free alcohol R.

Standardisation Dissolve 0.500 g of benzoic acid RV in 10 mL of water R and 40 mL of ethanol (96 per cent) R. Titrate with the potassium hydroxide solution, determining the end-point potentiometrically (2.2.20) or using 0.1 mL of phenolphthalein solution R as indicator.

1 mL of 0.5 M alcoholic potassium hydroxide is equivalent to 61.06 mg of C7H6O2.

Dilution Use aldehyde-free alcohol R.
