Prepd by deacetylation of 2-acetamido-5-nitrothiazole:
Hubbard; Steahly, US 2573641; US 2573656; US 2573657 (all 1951 to Monsanto).
Properties
Greenish-yellow to orange-yellow fluffy powder,
dec 202°. Slightly bitter taste. uv max (0.0005%
in water): 386 nm (ε 0.540); min: 295 nm. Very sparingly soluble in water. To make a water
soln, a 15% stock soln in propylene glycol should first be prepd.
One gram dissolves in 150 g of 95% alcohol; in 250 g ether. Almost
insol in chloroform. Sol in dilute mineral acids.Therapeutic Category (Veterinary)
