Chemical structure

Properties

Liquid. Amine odor. bp760 185°; bp20 87-89°; bp5 66-69°; bp3 50-55°. nD20 1.4396. The pure, anhydrous material may be stored in tightly stoppered bottles for several months. Storing under refrigeration is recommended to avoid development of pressure in the bottles. Polymerization takes place slowly during storage in an open container, or very rapidly in the presence of acid or acidic compds.

Use

Intermediate in the manufacture of β-alanine and pantothenic acid.
