Properties
Orthorhombic bipyramidal prisms from benzene +

in water (0.01 g/l). Sol in alcohol, chloroform, acetone, ethyl acetate,
benzene, toluene, xylene, ether, glacial acetic acid, acetic anhydride;
moderately sol in petr ether; stable in water and in cold alkaline
solns.Use
In organic syntheses, as benzoylating agent in the
manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and intermediates.
