Made by heating acetaldehyde and acetic anhydride. Control of fungal and bacterial growth in crops and animal feedstuffs: D. L. Kensler et al., US 3931412 and US 4012526 (1976 and 1977 to Chevron).

Liq; sharp, fruity odor. d412 1.061. bp 167-169°. Slightly sol in water; miscible with alcohol. With NaOH it yields acetaldehyde.
