Prepd by action of steam on diboron tetrachloride: Wartik, Apple, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 77, 6400 (1955); in quantitative yield by aq hydrolysis of tetraethoxydiboron at 0°: McCloskey et al., ibid. 83, 4750 (1961).

Properties

Minute crystals, starts to lose water at about 90° in vacuo.
